ABOUT CORE STORIES

BUG

“Core Stories” is a series which arose naturally from the “Rock Record” series. It consists of several quilts based on the circle, abstracted. As I’ve worked through this series, piece by piece, I’ve been surprised. Are they cores or are they holes? Things aren’t always what they seem. Cores shapeshift into holes: what forms, transforms, deforms; what we have, what we miss; abstract, concrete. The core of my story: pretty tough; very lucky.

About Tulip Selfies

If tulips were to take “selfie” photos, these are what they’d look like. I came up with this concept while free-associating for a juried exhibition to which I’d been invited to apply. Narcissus is another name for daffodil, and selfies are by nature narcissistic. So I created the “Tulip Selfies” series for the Anacortes Arts Festival Exhibition in April 2017, during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. These small quilts were sold to raise funds for the Anacortes Artists in Schools program.

“Scusi” Rock Record #9

The "Rock Record" series of quilts comes from trying to make tidy art from our messy lives by using geological metaphor. We push, we pull, we balance and stack. We repel; we attract. In all this tension, equilibrium may sometimes, momentarily, be achieved.
